CETAD  ETHICAL CODES

CETAD members are formed of professionals coming from different disciplines, working in sexual training ,sexual consultancy, and in the treatment of sexual  problems. Therefore, whenever there is an ethical problem in the sexual services or sexual  treatment services of CETAD members,  not only CETAD ethical rules but also the ethical rules of the basic disciplines they are connected to will step in.

Professional ethics, are required and guiding standards for professional implementations.    CETAD, by proposing standards for the career implementation to its members,  targets to protect the rights of the member/therapist and the consulting individual/patient.  Ethical rules are effective for sexual education, consultancy, sexual therapy, supervision and for research conditions.  CETAD, requires its members to comply with these ethical rules and all general professional rules.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

1. CETAD member should comply with CETAD  ethical rules and all general professional ethical rules in all his professional work in sexual field at all times.

2. CETAD member, while working in the are of sexuality,  should provide services both in the competency standards of CETAD and in the career standards of other institutions he has relationship with.

3.   CETAD member should not participate in any professional implementation that is inhuman or discriminating (race, age, sex, sexual  orientation, religious beliefs, nationality, ethnic, identity, physical and/or mental disability).

4. CETAD member, should be conscious of the ethical responsibility of the sexual  treatment attempt.

5. CETAD member accepts the competency standards of CETAD for sexual  therapy.

ETHICAL RULES

I) Qualities of sexual  therapy

A) CETAD member should  receive education that is complaint with CETAD  standards and the related regulations for sexual  education, consultancy, sexual  therapy, supervision.

B) Sexual  therapist, should be aware of different concepts explaining the sexual  problems and the sexual functions.

C) Sexual therapist should apprehend the diversity of sexual beliefs and attitudes that is widespread in the society, and the judgments of people that can affect the consulting individual/patient.

D) Sexual therapist is responsible of the method of treatment to be implemented. However,

It is also the therapist’s duty to enlighten the consulting individual/patient on the issue of all types of therapy and the existing opportunities.

E) Sexual therapist  should know the limits of his own competency and his proficiency and should inform the  consulting individual/patient  on time.  If his competency is not beneficial for the consulting individual/patient, then he should propose other therapists.  
F) Sexual therapist,  should not cause the consulting individual/patient to misinterpret his competency and should explain about his education, experience, ability and skills in the beginning of the therapy.

G) CETAD member sexual  therapist  should not cooperate or work with people who he knows do not comply with ethical rules or with no proficient, disqualified  people in his professional implementations.

H) CETAD member sexual  therapist  will not keep wrong record knowingly and will not prepare false reports.

I) Sexual  therapist, when he has emotional or physical problems that can harm the   consulting individual/patient  he is obliged to send the individual to another suitable therapist.

II) Moral, ethical and legal standards:

A) CETAD member sexual therapist, independent of his experience and education, should know that his personal needs can affect his decisions and actions in the therapy relation and the should have a suitable supervisor.

B) Sexual therapist, should not enter relationships that can injure consulting individual/patient under no circumstances.

C) CETAD member should avoid actions that can harm the legal and social rights of the consulting individual/patient at all times.

D) CETAD member, should inform the complaints and investigation about his professional implementation latest within 1 month to the CETAD Members of the Board/Honors Committee.

III) Benefits of consulting individual/patient

A) Sexual therapist, should inform the consulting individual/patient in the beginning of the professional relationship,  about sexual problem, the characteristics of the treatment and rules,  the effects of the therapy for this particular problem.

B) CETAD member sexual therapist, during the educating, consulting, therapy relationship with the consulting individual/patient, will keep all the information confidential about the  consulting individual/patient, even will keep hiss professional  relationship with consulting individual/patient.

C) CETAD member, can only reveal the information he has received from consulting individual/patient under the following conditions;

1. If the consulting individual/patient, has given a written document stating that he is aware of the type of information to be revealed, the purposes they will be used for,  to whom it will be revealed and that he has given this authority willingly, containing the name of the consulting individual/patient  and the date.

2. If there is a clear danger to the  consulting individual/patient’s life or to another human being’s life or to their safety,

3. If there is a legal obligation.

D) If the CETAD member, wishes to use private information about consulting individual/patient  for educational, research and publishing purposes, he should obtain the consulting individual/patient’s written approval.

E) CETAD member, should share the private information about consulting individual/patient even with the supervisors  or consultants in a limted way.  These people keeping the information they have gathered during the supervision and consultation process is the responsibility of the member.

F) CETAD member therapist,  will keep record of his professional methods and implementations. The way these records are kept should be reliable. (All records after the last interview should be kept for at least 5 years, and the full record/meaningful summary should be kept for 10 years).

G) CETAD member therapist, should also provide for the safekeeping of his records on the condition of his death or a health problem.

H) If CETAD member, provides services to groups such as couples or family,  he should protect he privacy of each individual in the group.

I) CETAD member, should balance the right of child/adolescent consulting individual/patient’s right of confidentiality with the right of parents’ getting information.

J) If Consulting individual/patient, wants information on the therapeutic intervention from a another professional,CETAD member, should provide information that is beneficial to the consulting individual/patient.

K) Sexual therapist, should receive consultation, supervision related to the treatment plan of the consulting individual/patient if necessary;

L) CETAD member therapist, will not get involved knowingly with consulting individual/patient and with people that have emotional relationships with him/her or with relatives of the first degree forming a close relationship . 

M) CETAD member therapist  will never be involved in the following acts even if the consulting individual/patient requests it: sexual  actions = kissing, sexual intercourse, caressing of breasts or sexual organs. = .  To be able to decide whether the sexual act is inappropriate,  the continuation of the therapeutic relationship is adequate.

N) Benefits of the Educational Areas:

A) CETAD member education  therapist, is obliged to respect the rights of the people she/he trains and the rights and prides of the employees and give them the opportunity of education, academical freedom and responsibility.

B) CETAD member, in the beginning of the professional relationship with the student he has assumed responsibility of educating or supervising,  about his/her professional competency, and qualifications, subject, his/her responsibility, duties and the fee student will pay.

C) CETAD educating member is obliged to maintain high standards and use current information in the training.

D) CETAD member should keep systematic and meaningful records of the education and supervision process.

E) CETAD member trainer, is obliged to keep the personal and professional information of the person trained absolutely confidential.

F) CETAD member educator, should never request his student to be a subject in the research projects.

G) CETAD member trainer therapist, should not get involved in a treatment relationship with the students he is providing training.

H) CETAD member trainer, should not establish a sexual relationship with his student during the training relationship.

V) Interest of the research subjects

A) All the research carried by CETAD member should be legal and ethical, the subjects' pride, rights and interests should be protected.

B) CETAD member, can only execute researches where subjects are informed of the professional qualifications of the researchers,  and their ethical, scientific and legal responsibilities during the research.

C) CETAD member, can only participate in researches that comply with Law, and approved by the voluntary and informed subjects.
